Study and Entry times

The academic year divide to semester as follows :

  • The first semester starts from first fourth week of September for 15 weeks.
  • The second semester starts from first third week of February for 15 weeks.

The Enrollment for any stage is during three weeks before starting any semester after completing entry conditions and payment of fees.


 Entry conditions:

  •    The students have to hold bachelor's degree in regional and urban planning or architecture or civil engineering from one of the Egyptian universities or the equivalent of the supreme council of Egyptian universities with the exception of general professional studies diploma (urban development) Which requires, a student get a bachelor's  degree from an Egyptian university or it's equivalent of the Supreme council of Egyptian universities.
  •    The student should have all the required documents to be determined by management graduate and research department at the faculty.
  •    The student should have the requirements set by the competent department council.
  •    The student should present his position from the conscription to be exempt final exemption from military service or finished it or obtained temporary exemption to be valid for at least two years from the date of the start of the study.                                                 (This requirement shall not apply to teaching assistant at the faculty)
  •    Approval of the work on studying and partial times (two days at least).
  •    The student should pay the fees every semester.
  •    The student should obtain an approval of competent department council and complete requires documents from management graduate.

Competent department council may add other conditions as it deems necessary for the acceptance, such an oral exam or on the paper for the new students and determine the number of acceptable students by the facilities available to the department and college, thus after the approval of the faculty council.


Amendment and cancellation conditions

  • The student has the right to change courses to another within two weeks of the start of the semester.
  • If the student withdraws after two weeks from the start of the study, he gets a grade (W) in the courses he withdrew from and is registered in the certificate, and he repeats these courses if they are compulsory.
  • The student has the right to withdraw from the course (and the fees are not refunded) within eight weeks at most from the beginning of the study in the semester. A grade of (W) is deemed to be a withdrawal.
  • The student has the right to re-register in any course in which he did not achieve the required grade, he will restudy the course and repass the exam (only once after paying the tuition fees).

"URP 505"Computer Applications

Advanced Studies in geographic information systems and spatial analysis in various fields of Urban Planning, introduction to remote sensing and how to use them in the field of urban planning, and reviewing the most important modern programs in various fields in the urban planning

"URP 703" Advanced Topics in Urban and Regional Planning

This course explain one of a modern subjects in the science of regional and urban planning and new technologies to keep up with global development on the one hand, and  to serve the local environment, on the other hand, the scientific content change from year to year according to the evolution of the global and local levels

URP 601"Research Methodology

The researcher is correct methodology for consideration put him should first understand the meaning of word methodology , and the decision is important and compulsory for all students in master’s courses in the kinds of scientific detective and explains 

the differences between quantitative and qualitative studies and qualities of each of the methods of data collection and analysis. 

 

1.Department of Urban planning

UP 702 Topics specializing in Urban Planning

One or more of the study subjects and issues or urban planning problems recently or Futuristic and how they dealt with using modern approach, and the topics are determined  in the context of actual requirement and its impact on the planning process.

UP 611 Legislation and housing laws

Study of legislation and organizer regulations to plan existing and new residential areas, construction and planning condition to various residential areas, and short comings in  the legislation and the laws of the planning and design of residential areas, and the laws of the Real estate financing, and the laws of the relationship between landlord and 

tenant.

UP 610 Society and  housing

Study of society characteristics and social classification of the population, and the requirements of target categories, and the interaction between society characteristics and the design of the residential unit and urban design and detailed residential areas, and how  to select the desired housing properties.

UP 603 Economics of Urban Management

Study objectives, functions and roles of urban management and how the administrative control, and  urban economics of scale , and adjust the level of quality of life in viruses  sectors of society demand characteristics, and identifying with the duties, local taxes and property taxes, commercial, industrial, other local and National Central revenue,

reallocation of  urban expenditure , determine the allocated structure of the central level of financial resources, classification and sectors in versus the demand of the various aspects of expenditure, and the efficient allocation of central financial resources and local expenditure and the various sectors and the balance of expenditure and urban expenditure budget.

 

2.Department of Urban Design

UD 701: Advanced Urban Design

This module presents some advanced studies of urban design in which students focus  on studying architecture and urban styles, complex visual studies, and learn how to analyze and design elements of urban design.

UD 705: Advanced landscape Design:

In this module, the students introduced to the methods of handling various landscape projects with differences (size, place and geography). The student designs a project proposed by the teaching faculty.

 

3.Department of Environmental Planning and Infrastructure

EP706: Sustainable management for infrastructures systems

Infrastructure sustainable management through its legal context through applicable laws, regulations, codes, international agreements and conventions, its fair and just cost and pricing policies and principles and service continuity and efficiency with applications to basic resources covering good governance and optimal utilization of such resources.

EP707: Green architecture

Introduction to green architecture principles and applications at different systems and countries, its application and practices through urban settlements especially in energy and water use, and material rationalization with special focus on green infrastructure with review of international similar experiences.

EP610 Free studies in environmental planning

Dynamic course aiming at building knowledge base on the EP scope within the context of the new global innovations and directions through series of seminars and directed group discussions on applied cases.

 EP605 Economics of environmental planning

Advanced studies of general & environmental economy and investments towards conservation and its feasibility and its reflection on the physical and regional planning levels. It covers environmental accounting and surveillance using value engineering particularly in Environmental Planning.

Main Terms & Conditions

The most important provisions of the Regulations - regarding credit hours of compulsory and optional materials:

  1. The student studies courses of code 600/700 number of credit hours,at least 18 hours, including 12-hour compulsory courses and 6 hours of elective courses,and then prepares a message evaluated as 18 credit hours.
  2. .Students choose courses that would make it through the semester before the start of the study, from among the list of courses determined by the department concerned Council, With the consent of the academic supervisor 
  3. These Courses Should be Certified by The Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, and Under his Authority the students will be allowed to choose one or more of Scientific Courses from outside the department concerned,or from one of the faculties of the University of Cairo,a maximum of 6 credit hours.
  4. The maximum number of credit hours that student is allowed to register for the semester is 12 hours.
